Hendricks says that under the leadership of the DA, Kouga is poised to become the first municipality in the Eastern Cape to roll out free unlimited Wi-Fi to the public.

ANC attempt to raise eThekwini city manager's salary by R700k blocked 

ANC councillors' attempt to raise the salary of eThekwini City Manager Sipho Nzuza by about R700 000 was thwarted by opposition councillors on Tuesday.

The opposition parties walked out of a council meeting, causing the meeting to collapse due to a lack of quorum.

DA eThekwini caucus leader Nicole Graham told to News24 that the opposition parties included the DA, EFF, IFP and ACDP "and there might have been independents or other smaller parties".

"It was done because we saw an opportunity to block the item that was before the council," said Graham.

DA 'not at all happy' about payment agreement with Tshwane striking municipal workers - report 

DA governance chief James Selfe says the party is not impressed with the once-off payment agreements made with disgruntled municipal workers of the City of Tshwane.  

This after the city was gridlocked for three days last week when workers embarked on a strike demanding an 18% salary increase which they said was given to the city's top management and executives. 

However, according to the Sunday Times, Selfe says his party, which took office in the city in 2016 after the local government elections, is "not at all happy" with the agreement bonuses which will see the city spending R318m. 

After a week of chaos and disruption in the capital, the South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu), Independent Municipal Allied Union (Imatu) and the City reached a settlement agreement on Thursday night, News24 reported.

All three major parties in the city – the DA, ANC, and the EFF – deny that the matter will be left to die. But the reality is that Mosola will leave his post several million rand richer, with a guarantee that the only proper investigation into GladAfrica so far will be buried.

A closed-doors council meeting last Thursday saw the parties agreeing to a separation agreement to that effect, with the support of the DA and the ANC.
