PATIALA: A 40-year-old man killed his five-year-old son before committing suicide by consuming poison at Heerpur village in Punjab's
Ropar district on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Harjinder Singh, 40, and his son Harkirat Singh, 5, who were living at their village that falls under Nurpur Bedi block. Police said Harjinder was facing depression after his wife Jasvir Kaur, 32, had abandoned him for the second time and had run away with her paramour.
Harjinder’s wife was allegedly having an extramarital affair with a man of the same village. The police added that she was somehow recovered and the matter was brought before the village Panchayat.
Investigating officer Balbir Singh said, “The wife of the deceased had again abandoned him and had run away with her paramour only ten days ago. Deceased Harjinder was mentally disturbed and on Wednesday he consumed poison in his house after poisoning his five-year-old son. He was living separately from his parents and brother who also lives in the same village. The villagers came to know after Harjinder did not come out of his house. The villagers broke open the door and rushed both Harjinder and his son to the hospital, but both were declared brought dead by the doctors. We have registered the case against Harjinder’s wife Jasvir Kaur and her paramour under sections of abetment to suicide and common intention under the IPC.”
