An NRL fan has shown aspiring footballers how not to try to catch a bomb.
Hilarious footage has emerged of the man who took a dramatic tumble after copping a hit to the head by the ball he was trying to catch at Newcastle's McDonald Jones Stadium.
The spectator who captured the moment told Daily Mail Australia it happened during the half-time entertainment at an NRL rugby league clash between the Newcastle Knights and Wests Tigers on July 26.

The man was one of several fans invited onto the field during the break to participate in a high bomb catching challenge.
With a big crowd of more than 21,000 watching on, the fan tries on keep his eyes on the ball launched high into the sky.
As the ball comes closer, man runs backwards to try to take a spectacular catch.
Instead, he's smacked in the head by the football and is knocked to the ground as the crowd groans in the background.

The footage has since gone viral on social media with thousands of views and comments since being shared in recent days.
'Falcon of the year for sure,' one man commented.
Another added: 'Footballers' worst nightmare.'
The ground announcer on the night also took to Facebook to relive the moment.
'If only they captured this bloke talking himself up before that. One of the moments of the season,' he wrote.

Some fans believed the fan deserved the prize money that was up for grabs.
Separate footage of the same incident but from a different angle from behind has also emerged.
'This is proof that one of life's great hopes is that your most embarrassing moments aren't recorded on live TV, from multiple angles,' one man posted.
In the main game, the Knights went on to go down to the Tigers 28-26 after leading 12-0 early on.
