Swarmilan singers entertain music lovers with old hits

Nagpur: Presenting hits from the 80s and 90s, with some new tunes, Swarmilan took the audience down the memory lane at a programme ‘Golden era of old melodies of Bollywood’ organized at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, on Wednesday.
It was a musical treat for the gathering as the selection of songs was very rare that included some new songs too. The singers presented solo and duet songs.
Artistes Arti Rajkondewar and Yogesh Butke’s started with the duet rendition of ‘Aye mere hamsafar’ that garnered a huge round of applause. TK Balakrishnan and Jaya Dhabhekar won hearts by singing the old melodies like ‘Sun beliya’, ‘Ek rasta hain’ and ‘Paach rupaiyya bara aana’.
The list of thirty peppy songs that left the audience in thrall included ‘Gali mein aaj chand nikla’ by Sulbha Mandekar, ‘Khai ke paan Banaras wala’ by Jaffar Sheikh, ‘Aaj rapat jaye’ by Tejas Athawale and Samata Athawale and ‘Dard-e-dil’ by Sanjay Pillay.
Changing the mood with some new hits, Sunil Francis presented a powerpact solo on ‘Dil sambhal ja zara' and 'Ek din tere raho mein.’
The audience demanded an encore and artiste Akash Patel enthralled with a performance of the song ‘Kahin ab na jaa’.
Other singers who performed were Arya Kshatriya, Ujwala Ramteke, Vandana Wandile, Jaya Dhabekar, Samata Athawale, Sushila Chauhan, Arvind Shinde, Sachin Gadge, Sushila Karande, Bhushan Mudliar, Satish Ijmulwar, Kirti Patil and Dhananjay Bapat.
The programme was conceptualized by Sulbha Mandekar and Sajay Pillay whereas the sound direction was done by Shubham Gangotri.
Adding element to the songs with the instruments was Shrikant Suryawanshi on the tabla, Dipak Kamble on the bongo, Raja Rathod on the dholak, Mangesh Patle on the casio and Subhash Wankhede on the octapad.
The musicians gave justice to the songs presented on the evening. Anchor Prakash Sahu kept the audience engaged with his quick wit.
