Mangaluru: Toddler drowns into bucket of water

MANGALURU: A toddler drowned after falling into a bucket of water, while his mother was away in Kulai on Wednesday.
According to police, the incident took place around 10am. The victim was identified as 18-month-old Siddharatha, the son of Shankarappa. The victim’s father is a daily wage labourer and family hails from North Karnataka. The Shankarappa couple have two children. The elder one is four. They were staying in a rented house in Kulai. Police said the mother left the toddler unattended while she went to bathe the other child. The toddler, who was playing outside, fell into the bucket of water accidentally, and died.
Surathkal police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Pedestrian run over by two-wheeler

A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a speeding two-wheeler near the Puttur-Nehrunagara Railway Bridge, late on Tuesday. Police named the victim as Vinod, resident of Puttur Kolthige. The incident took place around 10pm, when accused Vasanth, 40, was driving recklessly and hit a pedestrian. Due to the accident, both were thrown on the road, and Vinod received grievous injuries on his legs and forehead, while Vasanth received head injuries. They were immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital. Vinod succumbed to his injuries later in the night.
A case has been registered at the Puttur traffic police station.
