Punjab: Burglars steal Rs 40 lakh from ATM in Fatehgarh Sahib

PATIALA: Unidentified persons looted Rs 40 lakh cash from an ATM of State Bank of India at Sirhind – Patiala Road in Rurki village of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab. The incident took place in the wee hours of Wednesday when the miscreants, their faces covered, entered the ATM installed in Rurki village and uprooted the ATM machine.
The police claimed that the accused had taken away the ATM along with them while the bank officials claimed that cash amounting to more than Rs 40 lakh was deposited in the ATM.
The task to deposit the case has been assigned to SisProsegur Pvt Company that had recently deposited the cash in the ATM. Lakhwinder Singh, cash officer SisProsegur, revealed that this was a second attempt in a month to rob the ATM, but the bank did not bother to deploy a security guard.

“Last month, some unidentified persons had made an attempt to uproot the ATM machine but they failed. However, they made the damage of more than Rs 70,000 to the machine. The SBI bank authorities here should have deployed a security guard, but no such initiative was taken and hence on Wednesday some unidentified persons have robbed the money from this ATM. The police patrolling is also done on this route, but even then it was shocking to learn about the incident. The banks are supposed to deploy the guards at the ATMs and our duty is only to upload the cash successfully," said Lakhwinder Singh.
Station house officer of Sirhind Manpreet Singh said, “The sketches of the accused are being drawn by looking into the CCTV footage and soon the accused will be nabbed.”
