Extending the service of the home palliative care in the district, Arike, a home day care programme, began here on Wednesday. Nurses who have undergone training in palliative care will be reaching out to patients at home every day on two-wheelers.

The service will be available to those who have registered with the General Hospital’s home palliative care programme (phone: 7034336999). New registrations can be done at the National Health Mission office.

A batch of eight nurses is ready to take up the service. The General Hospital had run a soft launch 15 days ago with three nurses.

The service will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost of the service is ₹300 for one-and-a-half hours and up to ₹800 for eight hours.

The new daily service will fill the gap of the General Hospital’s palliative programme that is able to reach the patients only once a month.

Arike has the support of the Indian Medical Association, National Health Mission, General Hospital and Manuel Oneiro Foundation.

District Collector S. Suhas inaugurated the programme at the General Hospital.
