Chevrolet Corvette C8.R GTE Could Soon Be Joined By GT3 Version

Chevrolet recently released a teaser video previewing the new C8.R Corvette racer.

Initially, the car will be built by GM Racing in partnership with Pratt & Miller to comply with GTE regulations, allowing it to compete in the World Endurance Championship and North American IMSA series as well as events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Which Car reports that, once development on the GTE is completed and the car starts to race, Chevrolet will turn its attention to make a GT3-spec version. This would open up the possibility of the new ‘Vette racing in various championships around the world.

One of them including Australia’s most famous circuit, Mount Panorama in Bathurst, and the 12 Hour endurance race that is held there.

It is believed that Holden could run the C8.R GT3 in local championships as it looks to expand its motorsport presence beyond the Supercars series, where it employs Triple Eight Engineering to run its factory team. Triple Eight has also started to dabble in the GT3 class and, earlier this year, partnered with Mercedes-AMG to run a GT GT3 during the Bathurst 12 Hour. Fast forward to 2022, and it is conceivable that Holden and Triple Eight Engineering could enter a C8.R in the race.
