Hoping to save lives, Panchkula to have intersections on black spots

The Panchkula MC has decided to implement the intersection plan following successful trial on two major roads
PANCHKULA: After successful trial of intersections on two major roads, the Panchkula municipal corporation is going to implement it at various other black spots in the city, which were identified by the Haryana Vision Zero programme.
The MC is chalking out a plan to implement intersections at 24 black spots on various roads, which were identified as accident-prone spots. On the two roundabouts, the MC, along with the Haryana Vision Zero Team, painted roads, and installed cones and barricades on the intersection to make them look attractive. These intersections will help reduce congestion as well the number of crash conflicts.
In the wee hours of July 12, 2019, the Panchkula municipal corporation, along with the Haryana Vision Zero team, conducted intersection trial on two major roads of the city, i.e. Sector 20 lights below the flyover and at Majri below flyover.
MC commissioner-cum-administrator Rajesh Jogpal said that the intersections designed on two major roads led to a decline in the number of accidents, after which they decided to implement it on all roads under their purview.
He said that they would also send this model to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for implementation on the roads under their purview and which have black spots. He said that some roundabouts of the city, which were also included in the MC plan, have already been modified and the number of accidents has now come down to zero.

Elsewhere in Haryana, the Haryana Vision Zero team has already conducted intersection trials at two locations in Rohtak, which was appreciated by the public there.
This programme was launched by state's chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in May 2017 with an aim to reduce accidental deaths to zero by 2030.
