MUMBAI: Resident doctors in state-run medical colleges have threatened to go on strike from August 7. Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) said irregular payment of stipend, absence of clear regulations for TB and maternity leave were some reasons for their agitation.

A MARD representative said the doctors would withdraw from services from 8am. "We will stop emergency and routine services if the state does not meet our demands," said the member.
"Doctors at Government Medical College in Akola, SRTC Ambejogai, GMC Latur and Nagpur have not received stipends for four months," MARD said. MARD also demanded a rise in stipend, which should be "on par with central institutes". MARD said they were promised a hike once in three years. The demand was agreed to in January, but there has been no change yet, it said.
