Should You Skip That 911 For Something More Offbeat Like The Lotus Evora GT?

Lotus is the absolute master of the pure thrills sports car, and Matt Farah from The Smoking Tire recently had the opportunity to test out the 2020 Evora GT.

The British car manufacturer only introduced its new model in late July targeting the vehicle at the U.S. and Canadian markets. It replaces the Evora 400 and Evora Sport 410 in the range and is available either as a two-seater or a 2+2.

Powering the mid-engined sports car is a 3.5-liter supercharged V6 pumping out 416 HP and, when equipped with the six-speed manual, as the one Farah drove, delivers 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque – the six-speed auto has 332 lb-ft (450 Nm). The sports car accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.8 seconds with the manual and goes on through to a 188 mph (303 km/h) top speed.

The Evora GT features calipers and discs from AP Racing, Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers and sits on 19×8.0-inch front wheels and 20×10.5-inch rear wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Farah notes in his review that, while the suspension and braking components are fairly traditional, particularly compared to the various adaptive suspension systems on the market, Lotus has managed to make an exceptionally capable sports car which is good at just about everything.

In the U.S., the Evora GT starts at $96,950, but the car featured in this test was loaded with options, which inflated its price considerably to over $120,000.
