BENGALURU: A request for some elbow room while dancing at one of the city’s top nightlife addresses led to an assault and a police case recently.
Naveen Belludi Veeresh, a bodybuilder who runs a fitness firm in JP Nagar, alleged that last Saturday, he and his friends were beaten up by another group at Nazaara, the rooftop restaurant-lounge of Courtyard by Marriott on Hebbal Outer Ring Road.
The fight broke out amid sounds of merriment at a DJ party after Naveen, 36, asked one Prashant Gowda to maintain a little distance from him. Prashant was apparently swaying while holding a lit cigarette, which made Naveen uncomfortable. “I requested the man twice to keep distance as the cigarette kept brushing against my hand. I pushed him when the cigarette touched me the third time. This irked him and his friends — it was a group of about nine — and they started hitting me and my pals,” he alleged.

The row occurred at 2.30am. The bodybuilder and his friends were forced to sit on the floor. They allegedly kicked him until he almost lost consciousness. “My friends gave me water and took me out from the hall. The group threatened to kill me if I returned to the place,” Naveen told police.
He was taken to a hospital later. Police said he had a swollen face. A case was registered against Gowda and his friends. “We have collected CCTV footage from the venue and efforts are on to locate the group,” an officer said.
