BENGALURU: A 32-year-old homemaker on Monday pushed her seven-year-old daughter off the
terrace of a
20-storey apartment in JP Nagar 7th Phase before killing herself by leaping from the building, police said.
The apparent murder-suicide may have been a fallout of an argument on Sunday between P Jyothi and her husband, Pankaj Kumar, investigators said. Kumar, who is originally from Gujarat and runs a chain of hardware shops in and around JP Nagar, lived with Jyothi and their daughter on the third floor of A-4 Block in Elita Promenade apartments.
“But Jyothi and her daughter jumped from the terrace of A-6 Block of the apartment complex around 4pm on Monday,” a police officer said. “The doors to the terraces of A-4 and A-5 block were locked.”
JP Nagar police said they did not find a suicide note. Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had a fight on Sunday night over Kumar’s suspicions that Jyothi had cheated on him.
“After the argument, Kumar announced that he was separating from Jyothi and left home with some of his belongings,” the officer said. “Jyothi tried to contact him on Monday but his cellphone was switched off.”
