KOLKATA: The husband of the 26-year-old homemaker, who was named in a suicide note by the woman after cops found her decomposed body hanging at her
Kestopur apartment last week, was arrested on Sunday night. He had been absconding for five days to avoid detention.
On Sunday night, cops raided a house at Nimta Culture More and arrested the husband, Soumya Ganguly and detained his parents from a relative’s house. They were questioned at length till late on Monday.
“We were trying to track the husband for all these days and had raided a number of places looking for the family. We also contacted some of their relatives. On Tuesday, neighbours called in cops, who entered the first-floor flat at Prafulla Kanan in Kestopur and found the woman hanging from a ceiling fan. The body was decomposed and cops suggested the woman died at least 24 hours prior to she was recovered. Cops also found a suicide note in the room that blamed the woman’s husband for the
death. Subsequently cops started a case of
abetment to suicide against the husband and started looking for him.
“The youth said the couple had a fight on Sunday, following which he left the house and didn’t return. He claimed the woman’s phone was switched off since then and got to know about her death on Tuesday from news channels,” said an officer.
