Gold and cash worth ₹13 lakh that were left behind on a train by a woman passenger from Chennai were restored to the owner within hours by Railway Protection Force on Sunday.

According to the RPF, V. Meera and her mother-in-law had travelled from Chennai to Madurai on Ananthapuri Express. After the train left Madurai station, Ms. Meera rushed to the RPF station at the junction complaining that her bag containing ₹ 2.03 lakh, 40 sovereigns of gold, two mobile phones and some documents was missing.

RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector M. Babu, who was on duty, immediately alerted RPF constable M. Suresh at Virudhunagar railway station.

On arrival, the constable checked the berths in the sleeper class coach and recovered the bag. Inspector of Railway Protection Force Mukesh Kumar handed it over to the owner.
