Kolkata: Member of thak thak gang arrested

KOLKATA: Police have arrested a member of the thak-thak gang from Hooghly’s Bandel in West Bengal and recovered Rs 70,000 from his possession.
Vijay, 27, who hails from Delhi was a part of gang that had stolen a bag containing Rs 1,80,000 and valuable documents from a car in May by diverting the attention of the driver by throwing mobil on the bonnet of the car in Ballygunge Circular Park.
The cops had arrested Bhola das, the kingpin of the gang from Ambedkar Nagar in Delhi, in the first week of July and recovered Rs 50,000 from his possession. On interrogating Das police got leads on the whereabouts of Vijay whom they arrested from Bandel on Tuesday.
The gang which is known as thak-thak gang because they commit theft by distracting the attention of the owner by knocking on the window panes have committed several crimes in many parts of the city.

“The accused persons are members of an organised inter-state racket and involved in two other cases of theft with the same modus operandi which they committed in the city.
Vijay will be produced in court on Wednesday. Das who was arrested earlier is in police custody till August 9,” said an officer.
