PUNE: Unidentified men stole cash and ornaments collectively worth Rs 6.5 lakh from a businessman’s flat and attempted to commit burglaries in three other flats in River Crest Society at Boat Club Road on August 4 between 3am and 4.15am.
One of the flat owners based in Mumbai has lodged an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code with the Koregaon Park police on Monday.
Police said four masked burglars travelling in a car drove into the society when a security guard opened the gate and did not lock it after one of them informed him that they would be leaving the place in 10 minutes. The other guard was not vigilant.
The burglars parked their car outside building no. 2 and walked into building no.1 and broke locks of three flats located on the third and fourth floor with sharp weapons on finding it locked. The burglars also visited building no. 3 and broke lock of flat no.2 belonging to a Mumbai businessman on the first floor, police said.
“Investigations have revealed that out of the four locked flats burglars stole cash and ornaments worth Rs 6.5 lakh from the flat, of a businessman based in Brazil, located on the third floor in building no. 1. A CCTV camera has captured images of the four burglars and we are working on certain clues for establishing their identities to arrest them at the earliest,” said assistant inspector Kiran Londhe of the Koregaon Park police station.

The society has 32 flats that is eight each in three buildings. Around six families are staying in the society and the remaining flats are locked as their owners are not staying in Pune, police said.
Two incidents of serial burglaries were reported in gated housing societies at Kalyaninagar and Vimannagar recently.
