South African Moto2 rider Steven Odendaal pulled off one of the greatest 'saves' in motorsport when he was fully dislodged from his bike but managed to avoid crashing during third practice for the Czech-Republic grand prix.

The Johannesburg-born rider is a former European Moto2 champion and showed nerves of steel when he hit a wet patch during practice on Satuday.

In an interview after the race the 26-year-old said: "The rear of the bike let go and kicked him off like a rodeo horse, but I managed to save it." Odendaal said his NTS team had changed the bike frame after an incident during practice Friday and that he was happy no more more work needed to be done.

Odendaal finished in 22nd place while compatriot Brad Binder's race ended on lap seven.
