Ludhiana, August 6, 2019: The preparations regarding the Census 2021 have started. And to ensure that the staff does not face any issues while carrying out the Census, a trial (pre-test) is being carried out in ward number 14 of the city.
The four-day training of supervisors and statisticians participating in this trial started at MC Zone A office under the supervision of Joint Commissioner Manjit Singh Cheema.
This training would be imparted by Ashwani Kapoor, Assistant Director, Directorate of Census Operation Punjab, Renu, Naginder Yadav, Pinky Master Trainer, Jarnail Singh Statistical Investigator, Arvinder SDO MC, besides several others.
While providing information regarding the proposed trial, Ashwani Kapoor informed that this trial is being conducted in ward number 14 of city and it would be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, counting of houses and National Population Register is to be updated, whereas in the second phase, census work is to be carried out. He said that the first phase is to be completed in August 2019. The second phase is to be completed between September 10 and September 29, 2019. He informed that the Census in the country would be held in February 2021, for which preparations have been started from now onwards.
He further stated that this time, the census would be done through paperwork as well as through the mobile application, and a special Android-based mobile application has been designed for this purpose and the trial would be carried out on the same application. He informed that the staff would be able to update data by using either paper or the mobile application. He said that at present this app is available only in android but by the time the census work starts, it would be available on IoS platform as well. He said that the mobile app would prove very beneficial for collection and compiling of data and the staff using this app would be given extra remuneration.
He informed that census is very important for every country, because our economic, social and other policies are framed keeping in mind this data. Even the delimitation of areas for elections, reservation of constituencies etc is also based on this date. That is why, it is important that this census is being carried out with utmost care.
On this occasion, it was also informed that the trial census would be carried out after school time so that studies of children do not get affected. The supervision of the trial and actual census would be done by senior officials.
