The station master of Aduthurai near Kumbakonam was placed under suspension on Tuesday after he cleared Tiruchi-bound Cholan Express from Chennai in a non-platform line (road number 2) instead of platform 1.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when the train was approaching the station. Railway sources said the Loco Inspector, who was on board the locomotive, apparently noticed the error and immediately informed the station master about the incident. The station master immediately shifted the signal to platform 1 after which the train arrived.
The sources said since it was a mistake committed by the station master, departmental action was initiated against him by placing him under suspension. The train later left Aduthurai for Tiruchi.
