At present, the reservoir has 130 tmcft water

Water from the Srisailam reservoir was released through the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator for the first time this season on Tuesday.

The release of water got delayed by one week as there was a delay in the issue of permission by the State government.

Currently, the reservoir has 130 tmcft water. With 3.2 lakh cusecs flowing into it from the Jurala reservoir, the water level at the dam stands at 866.08 feet. At the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, the water level stood at 263.09 metres. Water was released initially by lifting five gates. The quantum of water released increased to 10,000 cusecs by evening.

Through the head regulator, water was being released into the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) canal, the Galeru-Nagari canal, and the Telugu Ganga canal, said District Collector G. Veerapandian.

Puja was performed and flowers offered before releasing the water.

Nandyal MP P. Brahmananda Reddy, MLC Gangula Prabhakar Reddy, Srisailam MLA S. Chakrapani Redddy, Irrigation Chief Engineer Narayana Reddy, Superintending Engineer Ramachandra Murthy, and RDO Venkateswarlu were present.
