Surat police issue advisory to curb J&K rumours

Surat: City police issued an advisory on Tuesday instructing citizens not to share videos and messages on social media regarding any disturbance post revocation of the special status to Jammu & Kashmir.
Police had received information that videos of a recent conflict between cops and a group participating in a rally to protest mob lynching were being circulated with text messages that rioting has broken out in the city after J & K’s special status was revoked by Parliament. Miscreants behind circulation of such videos had written texts to instigate people to indulge in violence.
Police have warned of legal action against those sharing fake messages.

“It has come to police’s knowledge about mischievous videos. We have started an inquiry to find out who are behind this. Crime branch is inquiring into the matter and those behind it will be identified and nabbed soon. The advisory was issued by us to ensure that such messages were not circulated anymore,” a police officer said.
Police have started monitoring social media platforms to identify the mischievous elements.
