Traffic on most arterial roads go haywire owing to congestion

Residents of the city have demanded that the Kozhikode Corporation, the Public Works Department and the National Highway Authority immediately repair the roads that were damaged in the monsoon.

As in previous years, residents have a harrowing experience on account of the potholes in most areas. Badly maintained roads are taking a dangerous toll on the daily life of citizens. “Unfortunately, the authorities remain silent on the issue,” P.A. Jaiprakash, a resident, says.

Traffic, he says, is going haywire in city even during non-peak hours, be it at Malapramba or Eranhipalam junction.

“But the worst nightmare for motorists is the Kozhikode bypass. The traffic block starts from Thonadyad to Ramanattukkara,” P.S. Abdul Gafoor, another resident, says.

The mini bypass stretch and the Karapramba-Balussery stretch are also no exception. Potholes that have become deadly have been filled with stones for namesake. But within a day or two, these stones get scattered on the road, resulting in more accidents.

Several roads such as the East Hill road the Florican Road, on the western and eastern part of the city respectively are links to the arterial roads. These have also become unmotorable.

The East Hill Road is a link to the mini bypass and via Vandipetta Junction to the Kannur Road. Vehicular traffic is high on Florican Road for various reasons. The road is a link to the many educational institutions besides the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital. Vehicles proceeding to the Calicut International Airport and the Wayanad also take the route.
