Mosimane says Tau wasted time in Belgian second tier

2019-08-06 18:36

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he is happy that Percy Tau signed for Club Brugge but reveals he wasted a season in the Belgian second tier.

Tau signed for Brighton after leaving Sundowns in July 2018 but was then loaned out to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgium First Division B for the 2018/19 campaign.

He won the Proximus Player of the Season for his efforts yet Mosimane takes the view that it was still a season wasted in a lower league.

The 25-year-old scored on debut for his new club recently - a feat which 'Jingles' praised for the audaciousness of his scooped finish.

He said: "That's typical of Tau's goals...cocky. Unbelievable.

"Even the way he goes inside. Nice. That's how he used to play with Keagan [Dolly] and Khama [Billiat]. We taught them how to break the line. It's a good goal, good finish.

"Brugge is a big club. He is in the right place now even though myself I needed a little bit more but it's better than what he was doing last year. He just wasted a year. I am happy where he is now."
