MUMBAI: NCP president Sharad Pawar on Monday appointed former minister and NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik (60) as Mumbai unit chief, in place of Sachin Ahir, who joined Shiv Sena.

Malik, a four-term legislator, was housing and labour minister during the Congress-NCP rule. He resigned in 2013 after allegations against veteran social worker, Anna Hazare.
Besides Ahir, legislators Jaidutta Kshirsagar, Pandurang Barora and Vaibhab Pichad had quit NCP recently. Kshirsagar and Barora joined Sena, while Pichad joined BJP.
