In regard to the Letter to the Editor on July 31, "Library's drag queen story hour should not have taken place," I would like to comment that it is misleading as to the cause of the police presence. It was my understanding that the Christian group was planning on stopping the event by taking up all the seats and blocking families from attending (a letter sent to parishioners stated that) and that the preacher of a local Christian group went to the police department saying that he was bringing 40-50 protesters to the event.

There would have been no need for a police presence if this group had not stirred up trouble by trying to stop the event, so the cost should be born by this group of protesters.

I am so glad that the event did take place as the LGBTQ community is part of this community, a bigger part of this community than people think, and it should be represented. Shame on the Christian group for not accepting all people for who they are.

No one was forced to attend this program, so if protesters didn't agree with it, they didn't need to go. Instead, they were sending out emails and social media calls to flood the library and the mayor's office with demands that the story hour not be allowed to happen.

I can attest that those who did attend enjoyed what was really a very simple event: a person from the community volunteering their time to share stories with children.
