Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar: Need Rs 150 crore package for HDMC

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation
HUBBALLI: HDMC requires financial support to come out with development programmes which were hampered for a few years and we will try to get a Rs150 crore special package, said former chief minister Jagadish Shettar here on Monday.
Shettar said the Congress-JD(S) alliance government had failed to release grants for the development of Hubballi-Dharwad. “The current BJP government will take up various development works. We will urge chief minister B S Yediyurappa to announce Rs 150 crore package for the twin cities,” he said.
“The state government has already approved the Rs 50 crore pension grant. If that amount is released, works will move faster. Had the Central Road Fund (CRF) roads were developed, 80% of the roads would have been concrete roads. But, the then PWD minister H D Revanna did not issue work orders for road works worth around Rs 250 crore. My priority is to get all the CRF roads developed fast,” Shettar said.
He added that HDMC could not contribute for the operational cost of Indira Canteens and the issue would be discussed with the chief minister. Responding to the condition of roads and potholes, he said HDMC officials were not ready to adopt modern technology to ensure good quality work.
Earlier, Shettar inspected Jagadish Nagar slum at Heggeri. He said 240 houses would be sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the area and asked residents to clear the encroachment of the nearby nala, which would be developed under the Smart City Project.

After inspecting works in the area, Shettar said he was dissatisfied with the quality of work. He asked slum board officials to prepare a list of pending development works that are part of the Rs 25 lakh special grant. He asked them to prepare a proposal for works worth Rs 25 lakhs more.
Former corporators Raghavendra Ramadurga, Laxman Gandgalekar, Jagadish Nagar Shikkaligar Seva Sangha president Nagesh Kattimani, Yallappa Bagalkoti, Krishna Gandgalekar, Ravi Nayak and others were present.
