PATNA: Doctors resumed duty at the outpatient department (OPD) of government hospitals across the state after the Bihar chapter of Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) called off its strike against National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill on Monday.
Though most hospitals observed the strike for a day or two only, OPD services were restored at AIIMS-Patna, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) only on Monday.

RDA-Bihar president Dr Vinay Kumar said the strike was called off following an assurance by the Union health ministry that it would look into the issues raised by the doctors and hold dialogues with them. “We got an e-mail from the health ministry on Monday. If the changes are not made in NMC Bill, we will resume the strike,” Dr Vinay added.
Earlier, a Junior Doctors’ Association delegation led by its president Dr Shankar Bharti met PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad in the morning and announced withdrawal of the strike in the interest of patients. Soon, around 1,000 junior doctors resumed duty at the hospital, much to the relief of the patients.
