Surat scribe arrested for molesting woman PSI in Rajkot

Rajkot: A Surat-based journalist with a vernacular newspaper was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting a female police sub-inspector (PSI) at Mawadi police headquarters in Rajkot on Sunday night.
Police said the accused, identified as Izrael Ibrahim Sheikh, had allegedly barged into the house of the woman PSI with Rajkot rural police station and allegedly molested her.
In her complaint, the survivor said that she had come into contact with Sheikh when she was posted in Surat two years ago. Sheikh had proposed to enter into a relationship with him, but she had refused as Sheikh was married and had three kids.
“However, Sheikh started harassing her by messaging her on social media and calling her on the cellphone. He also threatened to defame her by circulating his photographs with her. When the survivor stopped receiving Sheikh’s calls, he drove from Surat to Rajkot in his car and committed the crime. He also attempted suicide by slitting his wrist with a knife he had brought with him. However, there was no serious injury caused to him. We arrested him on the complaint of the survivor on Monday morning,” said V S Vanzara, inspector with Rajkot taluka police station.
