RAJKOT: The woman
sarpanch of Sarakhadi village of Kodinar taluka in Gir-Somnath district was slapped allegedly by Bhagirath Solanki,
son of former BJP MP Dinu Bogha Solanki, who is in jail for the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa.
Apart from manhandling Asmita Vala, Bhagirath allegedly asked her 200-odd supporters to call off their agitation and leave from the venue. Vala and her supporters have been holding a dharna against the setting up of a jetty by a private company between Chhara and Sarakhadi villages for the past 21 days.
“According to the complaint, Vala was slapped twice by Bhagirath on July 29. She also alleged that Bhagirath threatened to kill her supporters, if they did not call off the stir. He had arrived in an SUV and two bikes, carrying an earth mover,” said K V Parmar, sub-inspector with Kodinar police station.
Apart from Bhagirath, those mentioned in the complaint are Meet Solanki — son of Dinu’s nephew Shiva Solanki, who was also convicted along in the murder case — Ravi Solanki, Jairaj Solanki, Natha Barad, Dharmesh Solanki and Dilip Barad.
Meanwhile, Sarakhadi village leader Bhikha Vanjha filed an application of complaint with Kodinar police station that on July 30, he and his friend Mayur Vala, who were going on their bike to the agitation site, were waylaid by Bhagirath, Meet, Jairaj, Barad and their supporters armed with bats and iron pipes.
“Vanjha alleged that Bhagirath and the co-accused allegedly threatened to break their bones, if they went to the agitation site,” said an official from Kodinar police station.
The police are yet to arrest the accused.
