Kanpur: With the announcement of domestic matches schedule by BCCI on Friday, out of 40 matches allotted to UP, including four Ranji trophy matches, the Green Park stadium is likely to host three Ranji trophy matches, said UPCA sources.
UP Ranji trophy team would play as many as 8 matches in league phase, and its first match would be against Railways on December 9. Thereafter, UP will play against Karnataka from December 17, against Saurashtra from December 25, against Tamil Nadu from January 3, 2020, against Baroda from January 11, against Mumbai from January 19, against MP from January 27 and against Himachal Pradesh from February 12.
According to sources, BCCI had declared the dates but did not finalise the venues. Once venues are declared then only the picture would become clear. However, cricketers of Kanpur are hopefull that they would get a chance to witness good cricket in the forthcoming domestic cricket season. Meanwhile, trials for selection of Ranji trophy continued on the second day at the Kamla Club ground on Saturday. Around 130 young cricketers, including some fresh faces, are taking part in the trials. Almost all old cricketers such as captain Akshadeep Nath, Upendra Yadav, Saurabh Kumar, Umang, Mohit, Rinku Singh, Zeeshan Ansari and Aryan Joyal took part in the trials and only Ankit Sigh Rajput was absent as he was out of station. Young cricketers, coming from under-19 and under-23 groups, impressed the selectors as well as the spectators because of their cricketing skills. The selectors will conduct a two-day net trial to pick at least four teams to play trial matches to commence from Sunday. Arvind Kapoor, chairman, senior selection committee, Anil Mathur, Mohd Aslam and Mohd Nasir were present on the ground to observe skills and talents of the cricketers.
