Adani Group chairman and managing director,
Gautam Adani, has expressed interest in developing a defence hub along the upcoming defence corridor in
Uttar Pradesh.
Giving a fillip to the state governments industrialisation plans, while speaking at the second groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday,
Adani also committed Rs 5,000 crore for power sector in the state, in addition to the Rs 5,000 crore for which he had signed MoUs with state government in 2018.
"We have also decided to invest in new age fields like data centres and defence. Given UP's size, strategic location and demographic dividend, I think UP can become a leading market in both these sectors with maximum potential for direct, indirect and induced job creations," he said. Adani added that his company has started working on plans to develop a multi-modal river terminal in Varanasi and was investing Rs 500 crore in developing rice, flour and dal mills and 'kachchi ghani' refining facilities in the state, which would be a boost to the agro industry.
