Over the past three years, Volkswagen has unveiled an array of electric concept vehicles previewing its forthcoming ID family of EVs.
The first model to launch is the ID.3 compact hatchback, which is expected to have its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. After that, VW will focus its efforts on launching the ID Crozz, a four-wheel-drive electric SUV that first emerged in 2017 as a concept vehicle.
During the last winter season, VW has been testing the first ID Crozz mules under a Tiguan body with a slightly longer wheelbase. Now it’s time to see the electric SUV’s final production body courtesy of a new set of spy photos taken in southern Europe.

The prototype is fully wrapped in camouflage tape but that cannot hide the fact that the production model has slightly different proportions from the concept. For starters, the finished item is less coupe-SUV-like when it comes to the design; the roofline is less inclined than on the study and the rear end is as straightforward as they come, while the sliding rear doors have been replaced by conventional ones.
The front end is probably the area that will resemble the concept the most, although the headlights and grille appear similar to the ID.3 as well. The ID Crozz is slightly larger than the short-wheelbase Tiguan and smaller than the Tiguan Allspace, but its generous wheelbase and EV packaging could make it more spacious inside than both models.
As with all upcoming VW EVs, the ID Crozz will be based on the flexible MEB platform. The model is expected to offer a total output of 302 HP from two electric motors and a driving range of more than 300 miles (483 km), and its floor-mounted battery pack will offer fast charging via a 150 kW charger that will restore 80 percent of its capacity in 30 minutes.
