Former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday asked rival National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the developments concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
“In the light of recent developments that have caused a sense of panic amongst people of J&K, I’ve requested Dr. Abdullah sahab to convene an all- party meeting. Need of the hour is to come together and forge an united response. We the people of Kashmir need to stand up as one,” she said.
The party of Dr. Abdullah, also a Member Parliament from Srinagar, won three seats in the Lok Sabha elections from the Kashmir Valley.
Ms. Mufti's suggestion comes days after the Ministry of Home Affairs came out with a slew of security related measures, including additional deployment of 10000 troops in the State.
These measures fuelled panic among locals and apprehensions among the regional parties about the Centre revoking special status of J&K by abrogating Article 35A and Article 370.
J&K Peoples Movement chief Shah Faesal asked Dr. Abdullah and Ms. Mufti to organise a meeting meet in Srinagar and invite all political leaders from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, “who have an interest in protecting the special status of J&K”.
“The entire population is confused because the leaders are still talking in multiple voices,” he said.
