2.6kg of gold seized from passengers at Trichy airport

TRICHY: Customs officials seized 2.6kg of gold -- worth Rs 90.35 lakh -- from 11 passengers at Trichy International Airport on Monday.
The officials said the passengers had arrived from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore in Malindo Air and AirAsia flights. On suspicion, they checked these passengers and found gold weighing 2.6kg in various forms -- chains, biscuits and cut pieces.
The passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur have been identified as Sikandar of Madurai, Abdul Majid of Tirunelveli, Amjadkhan, Syed Abuthakir of Chennai, Syed Ibrahim, Abdul Rahim, Sahul Hameed, Sadiq Batcha and Abdul Mathews of Trichy.

The passengers from Singapore have been identified as Narasimha Reddy of Chennai and Abdul Kadhar of Trichy.
Further investigations were on, customs officials said.
