The Vashi GRP on Sunday arrested the man who had pelted stone at a local train injuring the guard on Friday.
The accused, Kannan Dhanpal Harijan (20), was identified with the help of CCTV footage.
“The area from where the stone was pelted was remote where only this person loiters. Hence we sent the CCTV screenshot of the suspect to the guard, and he identified him,” police inspector Nandakishore Saste, Vashi GRP, said.
A resident of Chita Camp, Mr. Harijan is a history-sheeter, who was previously arrested in a theft case by the Kapurbawdi police and was in jail for 10 months.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating about his intentions on throwing the stone at the train.
The incident occurred at 11.36 a.m., just before the Belapur-CSMT-bound train entered the Vashi creek bridge. The guard stationed at the rear end of the train, Rajesh Kisan Yadav (44), was hit by the stone on the head.
He then alerted the motorman and got down at Mankhurd station. He got his wound treated at the medical room of the station and later the station master replaced Mr. Yadav till the next station.
