PUNE: Two suspects posing as employees of a travel firm duped Bhalchandra Bhosale (35) of Rs 2.14 lakh between April 17 and May 5, this year.
Bhosale hails from Dhanore in Khed. He told TOI that he came into contact with the suspects in April. “I found the contact number of a travel agency online. I wanted to book a tour of Singapore and Malaysia for my wife and I. The man and his accomplice charged Rs2.14 lakh for flight and hotel bookings. He had e-mail us all the required receipts,” he said.
The suspects then suddenly cancelled all the bookings. “The refund amounts were transferred to his bank account. The man had told me that that bookings were cancelled due to spelling errors,” Bhosale said.
The man had assured Bhosale that he would return the refund amount. “However, he kept delaying the transfer. After waiting for a while, I started pursuing the man. He then stopped responding to my calls and his cellphone was not reachable,” Bhosale said.
Bhosale then approached the cyber crime cell of the Pimpri Chincwhad police and filed a complaint application against the suspects. Meanwhile, he found out that the suspects were from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. “I sent an e-mail to the Kanpur police and they responded immediately,” Bhosale said.
As the Kanpur police needed an FIR to take action against the suspects, Bhosale registered an offence with the Alandi police on Saturday under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
Duo targeted five others

Bhosale continued to pursue the case. He found out that the duo had duped five others. “One of their targets had asked for reference from their customers. They had then provided the contact number of a woman, who then assured that she had very good experience with the tour operators,” he said.
After the man realized that he had been duped, he contacted that woman again. “The woman told him to stop calling her. She may have been their accomplice,” Bhosale added.
