Ahmedabad: Denizens to form fire rescue team

Residents of Ganesh Genesis to train select people in rescue work so that help is at hand in case of delay

Fire incidents across the state like Friday’s fire mishap in Ahmedabad and Surat tragedy have left the entire country apprehensive , PTI

After the fire tragedy which happened in the Ganesh Genesis building located in Gota area of Ahmedabad on Friday, the residences are going to form a fire rescue team in their society to tackle such incidents in future.

In the Friday incident, where the fire broke out on the fifth floor of the 11 storied building, around 35 residences were trapped inside it after the fire began to spread towards the upper floors.

In the incident, a woman living on the sixth floor of the building was killed, while eight others sustained burn injuries.

The residents alleged that the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency department for reaching the spot 50 minutes late after they had informed about the incident.

As the help arrived late, many locals took up the initiative and got inside the burning building to rescue people.

Uttam Panchal, a resident of E-block, said, "After the incident took place we are planning to form a rescue team in the society.

In which the selected people will be given rescue training, so that in future if any such incident happens, we will be ready.

In this particular incident, even after the fire officials arrived late they did their job and rescued the trapped people. But if we had a rescue team, there was a possibility that less causality must have happened."

Block vacated to ensure safety of the residents

After the incident took place, the electric and water supply of the block E of Ganesh Genesis was cut down by authorities as a safety measurement.

In the incident, the floors from 4 to 10 were affected due to the fire and it was not recommended by authorities to stay.

Authorities suspect that building structure might have also suffered damages in the incident and after some tests, it will be known.

Most of the residents of the E block have shifted to their relative's place for the time being and they were allowed to take essential stuff from their houses.

A team of police has been deployed at the entry gate of the building and only the residents are allowed to enter the building.

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had also reached at the spot on Friday late night and had taken samples to be investigated and probe what initiated the fire in the first place.
