Nagpur: A 62-year-old man, Ramchandra Nikhare, was declared dead at a hospital after he collapsed during a scuffle at his residence in a dispute over Rs 20 with his son’s friends, at Kunjilal Peth on Saturday.
Two men, now arrested by Ajni police, had gone to Ramchandra’s place to confront them for having approached the police over some threats.
Ajni police arrested Vicky Khunde, 23, and Saurabh Humne, 27, for creating a ruckus at Nikhare’s house, during which the senior citizen collapsed. Nikhare, already ailing from asthama, fell to the floor when Khunde pushed him. He fell unconscious and the family rushed him to a hospital. Nikhare used to sell flowers.
Khunde had borrowed Rs 20 from Nikhare’s son Roshan. Khunde, having an offence of burglary in the past, was not returning the amount. There was a spat between Roshan and Khunde, the latter worked at an eatery while Humne is an autorickshaw driver.
Fearing assault, Roshan went to Ajni police to register a complaint. Police went to arrest Khunde, but he was not at home. When Khunde learnt about the police complaint, he had gone with his mother to Roshan’s place.
An angry Khunde and Humne met Roshan when the latter was going to the police station. When Roshan returned, Khunde and Humne followed him, and hurled abuses at Roshand and his parents.
An enraged Nikhare tried to confront Khunde. During the scuffle, Nikhare was pushed, and he fell down.
