A nine-day handloom textiles exhibition, organised by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Kumbakonam, opened in the city on Saturday.
About 45 handloom weavers’ cooperative societies from Kancheepuram, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts are participating in the exhibition, which was declared open by Collector S.Sivarasu.
Silk saris from Kancheepuram, Tirubhuvanam, Arani and Salem, Coimbatore soft silk saris, cotton and linen saris, among other products, are on display at the exhibition.
A rebate of 20% would be offered on products bought at the exhibition. Select range of silk products would be available on discounts ranging from 35 to 65%, according to a press release. The department hopes to sell products worth ₹50 lakh during the exhibition which would be open at IMA Hall on Salai Road till August 4.
