SURAT: An 18-year-old boy died and a 20-year-old
newly married woman was washed away in ebbing waters of
Dumas sea near
Ganesh Mandir on Sunday evening . Another 28-year old man survived and was brought out of water by locals. Fire officials searched for woman till dark but could not recover her. The search will continue on Monday morning.
The deceased man is identified as
Ashwin Santosh Katare, 18, and the missing woman is identified as
Karishma Sagar Vakude, 20
According to the details of the incident as provided by a relative of the group of 15 people consisting of four women, eight men and three children from Bhatar’s Somnath Society who had come to Surat for tour, went to Dumas sea shore to enjoy Sunday evening .
Karishma was recently married to Sagar and the couple had come from Malkapur in Buldhana district, Maharastra.
Sagar saw a small boat lying in sea nearby behind
Ganesh temple. The family was not far from the spot, so he called his wife Karishma and his cousin Nitesh for taking a photo in the boat. As both of them got inside the boat, sudden ebbing of water resulted in the pushing of the boat in the sea. Ashwin was pulled out by Nitesh and others present but Karishma was swept away.
Ashwin was rushed to New Civil Hospital (NCH ) where doctors declared him brought dead whereas Nitesh is being treated there.
