With an aim to take strict action against Ayurvedic and Homeopathy medicine manufacturers who spread misleading information and false advertisement related to medicines, the state’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority have seized medicines from across the state of Maharashtra.
In the inspection drive conducted across the state, medicines with false claims worth Rs 20 lakh were seized by the authority. The authority has also sent notices to 167 ayurvedic and homoeopathy medicines manufacturers across the state. Besides medicines, seven other equipment advertised for increasing the size of the human sex organ was also seized by the authority during the drive.
Citizens should stop getting self-medication and not depend on misleading and false advertisement. An FDA official from drugs department said, “If citizens find any TV channels or other media publishing misleading advertisements, they should report such incidence to the authority.”
The action was taken by the authority under the provision of Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954 and Rules 1955, against the concerned advertisers, manufactures and persons related to advertisements while notice to TV channels for broadcasting objectionable advertisement was also issued.
Officials from FDA, stated, “In order to curb misleading advertisements, we initiated a special drive in June and July. Huge stocks of ayurvedic and homoeopathy medicines were seized. Notices have been served to manufactures of medicines who advertise their products for the treatment of increase sex power in human, diabetes, the stature of person, obesity, blood pressure, asthma, women-related diseases.”
