Ahmedabad: Con call centre busted, three held

The three accused in police custody
AHMEDABAD: City cyber cell on Thursday evening busted a fake call centre at Himadri Complex on Ashram Road and arrested three persons — Asifkhan Pathan (31) of Narol, Mohammed Faisal Shaikh (24) of Manek Chowk, and Rushik Kanjariya (24) of Ghodasar. The trio were allegedly running the call centre for a week and cheating US citizens on the pretext of giving them a payday loan.
DCP, cyber cell, Rajdeepsinh Jhala, said police have seized three CPUs, one hard disk, one Wi-Fi router and three mobile phones from the accused. Inspector V B Barad of cyber cell said that the accused used to call the US citizens and tell them that their loans have been approved and they have to purchase gift cards as processing fees. “The accused then used to redeem gift cards,” Barad said.

Police said Asif worked in an advertisement company located on the fifth floor of Himadri Complex and as he kept the keys of the office with him, the accused used to operate fake call centre during night from the office.
“Mohammed Faisal was his partner at the call centre and used to redeem the gift cards. Both Asif and Faisal have studied up to class X. Kanjariya used to work as a caller,” said a police officer.
