PATNA: The flood toll in state touched 127 on Friday with the disaster management department (DMD) reporting four more deaths. Sitamarhi has the highest number of casualties at 37, followed by Madhubani (30), Araria (12),
Darbhanga (12), Sheohar (10), Purnia (9),
Kishanganj (7), Muzaffarpur (4), Supaul (3), East Champaran (2) and Saharsa (1). The number of people affected by the floods in the 13 districts increased from 82,11,820 as on Thursday to 82,83,820 on Friday.
Flood situation is still grim in several areas as rivers Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamla Balan, Lalbakeya, Adhwara, Khiroi and Mahananda were flowing above the danger level at 15 different flood gauges in north
Bihar districts on Friday. Bagmati had a rising trend at one gauge each in Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. Kamla Balan in Madhubani, Lalbakeya in East Champaran, Ganga at Buxar and Digha ghat and Ghaghra at two places in Siwan maintained the rising trend.
However, the weathermen do not expect any significant rainfall either in the flood-affected districts in north Bihar or the neighbouring Nepal. The India Meterological Department (IMD) on Friday stated that showers are expected only in scattered manner in Bihar till July 30.
Madhubani DM Shirsat Kapil Ashok reviewed the restoration works on a breach on western embankment of Kamala Balan river near Naruar village in Jhanjharpur subdivision a few days back.
As per DMD figures, 6,400 people were staying in 10 relief camps and 888 community kitchens were being run in the flood affected districts. Incidentally, the number of relief camps as well as community kitchens has come down in the last 10 days. Altogether 185 relief camps were running as on July 15 and the number of people in the relief camps was also high at 1,06,953.
Nonetheless, total 27 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in relief and rescue operations.
