Chandigarh: Snatchers strike in sectors 22, 31

CHANDIGARH: Snatchers struck twice in the city in the last 24 hours.
In the first case, Satna, a resident of Doctors Mess, Sector 32 B, reported that two unknown boys riding a motorcycle sped off after snatching his mobile phone near the market in Sector 31. A case under sections 379 and 356 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Sector 31 police station.
In the other incident, Gurdiyal Singh, a city resident, alleged that two motorcycle-riding persons snatched his purse containing Rs 1,000 when he was standing near a petrol pump in Sector 22. He had taken out his purse to pay for corn bought from a roadside vendor. The motorbike bore registration number is PB-65-0866. A case was registered at the Sector 17 police station.

Police said they are on the trail of the snatchers and would arrest them soon.
Police, on the other hand, claimed to have arrested a snatcher, who is a proclaimed offender and an accused in 10 cases. The accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar (34) alias Billa, a native of Biralian villiage of Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh. The total number of registered cases of snatching against him is 17, out of which 12 are from Chandigarh alone and five in Panchkula.
