Two held for trying to sell elephant tusks in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Two men were arrested for allegedly trying to sell two elephant tusks at FTI Circle in Nandini Layout on Wednesday.
Nandinia Layout police identified the accused as Nagaraja Nayak, 44, from Maralavadi village near Kanakapura and Nagaraja, 33, from Jigani and seized the two tusks from them. The main suspect, Vasanth, a resident of Nidagal, managed to escape from the spot.
According to police, Ramakrishna M, a police sub-inspector, spotted three men with a gunny bag, behaving suspiciously at FTI Circle. Ramakrishna and his team rushed to the spot to verify what they were doing. One of the suspects fled the spot after noticing police approaching them.

Police managed to nab the other two men, who later confessed to their crime. Preliminary probe revealed Vasanth is the main accused in the case and only he knew the source of tusks.
“We’ve launched manhunt for Vasanth to know more details about the gang,” said an investigating officer.
