MANGALURU: Noted litterateur
Erya Lakshminarayana Alva passed away on Saturday. He was 94.
He suufered a heart attack at his house at Eryabeedu in the evening. Later, he died at Fr Muller Hospital here at 9.20pm.
A writer and prominent literary figure, Alva had presided over several literary conventions. He was closely associated with Sri Khetra Dharmastala Dharmadhikari D
Veerendra Heggade.
He was born to Mavanthoor Subbayya Alva and Domakke Alva of Eryabeedu in Modankapu village of
Bantwal taluk.
He was honoured with doctorate by the
Mangalore University and he was a recipient of several state awards.
He is survived by wife Anandi Rai and daughter Sukhada.
Many political and social leaders condoled the death of Alva. Bantwal MLA U Rajesh Naik said, Alva was instrumental in bringing many social reformations. "His death is an irrecoverable loss to the society, especially among literary and religious spheres."
