MUMBAI: Rain activity is likely to continue in the city on Saturday and the intensity is expected to decrease from July 28, says Skymet.
Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday evening with the Santacruz observatory recording 109mm rainfall in just three hours between 5.30 pm and 8.30pm. Till 5.30pm, the observatory had recorded only 23mm rainfall. The Colaba observatory recorded 52.3mm rainfall till 8.30pm.

IMD officials said due to strengthening of the monsoon current and formation of low pressure area over Bay of Bengal, rain intensity was likely to increase in the 48-hour period, beginning Friday. "We are expecting such rain activity to continue till July 27, and the intensity will decrease from July 28...Although light to moderate showers will continue, heavy rains are ruled out," said Mahesh Palawat, V-P, meteorology & climate change, Skymet.
As rain spells continued though the day, the intensity increased significantly in the evening, inconveniencing those returning home. Waterlogging, tree crashes and traffic jams added to commuters' woes.
While CR services on main and harbour lines were delayed by 10-15 minutes, there were no disruptions on WR. BEST diverted a few bus routes on SV Road near Andheri, Sion and Khar.

Heavy rains disrupted flight operations with 17 flights forced to divert to other airports. Four flights carried out go-arounds due to fluctuating visibility. According to the airport operator, flights were delayed by an hour. Towards the evening, arrivals were delayed by 40 minutes and departures by about 50 minutes, according to flightradar24, live flight tracking app.
Civic officials said due to waterlogging, traffic was diverted from Motilal Nagar in Goregaon, Veera Desai Road in Andheri, S V Road in Bandra, and King Circle. Seven tree-fall incidents were reported.
