Noida: At least 15 people were injured on Friday after a private sleeper
bus travelling from Delhi’s Kashmere Gate to Bihar’s Sitamarhi overturned after
hitting a
divider on Noida-Greater Noida expressway.
Nearly 45 people were in the bus when the accident took place around 5.30pm in Sector 96, opposite Bakhtawarpur village in Sector 127.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when he lost control. Police said he has been detained and is being questioned. Sector 39 SHO Rajesh Sharma said the bus had to be repositioned using a heavy crane which took time and led to a traffic jam on the expressway. He said that an FIR will be lodged in case a police complaint is received.
Sanyogiya Devi, a passenger whose relative was one of those injured, told TOI: “The bus driver was driving fast. He could not control the vehicle. All of us fell to the left side. There were around four-five children in the bus.”
“While some had cuts on their hands, others had a headache,” she added.
The injured passengers were taken to Yatharth hospital in Sector 110 by police and passersby. Dr Ankur Das, medical superintendent at the hospital, said 13 men and two women were injured. He said painkillers, along with tetanus injections, were administered to them, and they were discharged later.
Passengers who did not suffer any injuries were sent to Sitamarhi in another bus.
