A woman lodged a complaint of domestic violence on Tuesday against her husband and in-laws with the Mahila East police station. According to the complainant, her husband had been meeting another woman, and when she confronted him, it resulted in physical and mental abuse at his hands. Her in-laws had also sided with their son.
The couple had gotten married in January this year. While checking her husband's credit card bills, just a few weeks after the wedding, the woman found a charge from a hotel, not somewhere they had gone together. She got suspicious and asked her brother to investigate the matter. The brother found out that the husband had checked into the hotel with another woman.
The wife proceeded to disclose the matter in front of her in-laws. However, they said that it was normal for a man to roam around with girls. When the husband found out about the entire episode, an argument broke out between the couple and he started abusing her. As days passed, both the husband and the in-laws started harassing the woman physically and mentally over household work. When the woman asked the man to stop meeting the other woman, he flatly refused.
The woman had enough of her husband and in-laws after a bit and on April 4, she left their house to go live with her parents. Her parents wanted to make peace and sort the matter out. However, the in-laws and the husband were unrelenting and said that they wanted a divorce. The woman and her family tried to resolve the matter yet again on July 2 but the husband and his parents refused.
Eventually, the woman lodged a complaint of domestic violence with the police and investigation is on.
